When Curt Blefary won the AL Rookie of the year I was just turning 8. I was a newish fan, a "Junior Oriole" with my dad taking me to many games. He was one of my heroes then. Being young I didn't understand the trading business and was sad. I am glad to here thathe ended up in Memorial Stadium.

Garry, I'm too young to have covered him, but when I met him later, he left quite an impression.

Wow this is so cool! I am from Baltimore and I continued following all the teams when I moved to Lancaster to continue my education/career as a doctor. We are the same age. I really loved reading your column as well as John Steadman’s. He seemed to be a really good guy. And I liked that. You also seemed to be a nice guy, not always trying to have an “ edge” to your commentary. I just bought your book “ From 33rd Street to Camden Yards” on Ebay. Apparently you signed it too! I really look forward to really digging deep into your project. Having been a Junior Oriole they are in my DNA . Though I must confess I gave up on following them after awhile after the previous owner bought them. But now under new ownership I am enjoying them again as a “senior oriole “ in my retirement.

Great story. The Sun used to have a column called “Where are they now?” about Baltimore sports figures. This column reminded me of that.

I was outside of Memorial Stadium when Curt’s ashes were spread there. I remember that even though he had a reputation as a bad fielder, he made a terrific catch in game 3 of the 66 World Series. I was also there when he was the catcher for Tom Phoebus no hitter in 68. I always remember him for how hard he played the game.
